"Precious Wee Bunny"
"Precious Wee Bunny"
I had no idea when I sculpted the first “Wee Bunny” that it would launch the "Palm Size Bronze" series. The idea was to create an affordable small sculpture both as a playful break for me while immersed in the intense and saw-dusty creation of my large carved “Tree Reliquaries” and as an affordable, space-friendly and intimate sculpture for people (like me) who don’t have room for large sculpture in their home.
The limited edition of 100 “Wee Bunnies” quickly sold out. People begged me to cast more than 100 but I want the edition to remain precious and believe “Limited Edition” means….well….limited.
My mother, grandmother and aunts (all seven of my mother’s sisters) collected delicate porcelain treasures. I have a nostalgic fondness for porcelain. My friendship with Jeremy spawned the idea to recreate “Wee Bunny” in porcelain.
Jeremy Hatch is a brilliant artist, a master mold maker and dear friend who collaborated with me to recreate the rabbit who "started it all." Each little sculpture requires FIVE SEPARATE MOLDS of various bunny body parts, which are cast and assembled into each little “Precious Wee Bunny.” Due to the nature of the process of clay, the sculptures are slightly smaller than their bronze cousins. I personally hand sign each Precious Wee Bunny in clay before it is fired in the kiln.
"Precious Wee Bunnies" are a love note from me to you.
